I’m finally feeling good and almost normal, besides a few not so fun symptoms I won’t mention. The nausea has subsided and the bloat miraculously left overnight this week. I literally woke up one morning to my bloated “baby bump” gone! And I also learned to properly use my Bella Band by putting it on first before jeans, tucking it in and then rolling it over…no more fighting it during the day.
Our baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his or her thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, the facial muscles are getting a workout as the tiny features form one expression after another. The kidneys are producing urine, which are released into the amniotic fluid around the baby — a process that will keep up until birth.
In other news: Our baby is stretching out. From head to bottom, he or she measures 3 1/2 inches, about the size of a lemon, and weighs 1 1/2 ounces. It’s body's growing faster than the head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, the arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of the body. (The legs still have some lengthening to do.) Baby is starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over its body. Our baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and the spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though we can't feel its tiny punches and kicks yet, our little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.
