22 Weeks & Valentine’s

Ben and I celebrated the 22 week milestone and Valentine’s Day at the beach just like last year.  It was sort of bittersweet as one year ago we found out we were expecting for the first time, but feel blessed we are pregnant with healthy baby Tippett.  Saturday night Ben and I also felt Tippett kick from the outside for the very first time.  He has been very active this weekend…perhaps all the sugary Valentine’s treats have something to do with that!

I did not get around to making a 21 week post due to a busy weekend out of town and then a 24 hour bug ending the weekend on Sunday lasting through Monday.  Before my little stomach bug, I did go for my very first walk/jog since becoming pregnant.  It was the slowest jog I have ever done and it almost does not qualify as a jog as I only '”ran” about 20% of 1.5 mile walk.  But, it felt really good and rather odd with my growing stomach bouncing around.

Tippett is now 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound.  Our baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside the womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.IMG_4283
