This week we're celebrating a different type of V-Day...Baby Tipp is now considered Viable and in the unfortunate event he came early, the doctors will provide all available care to him. It's a big milestone and we can't believe a baby his size could actually survive, but with the advancement of medicine babies can survive as early as 22 weeks.
In other big news, Ben and I ordered his nursery furniture. Of course the dresser is backordered, but the crib should be in within two weeks. Hopefully this will really motivate us to clean out his room and get started on decorating!
Also, we set a date for our first shower - April 11. One of my longest friends, Elizabeth and her mom graciously offered to host a shower for me in Sanford. I guess I should finalize my registry soon and actually figure out how many I need of each item.
Baby Tipp is growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
